Salary: £25,605 – £27,567 plus £6,050 sleep payment (121 x £50 per sleep, per annum)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Fair Ways are pleased to be able to offer a number of 6 month secondment opportunities into Senior Support Worker positions in our Welsh homes.

Where and when do we need you?

We are looking for Senior Support Workers in our Children’s Intervention Home’s in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our intervention homes accommodate up to 5 children aged between 11 and 18 who have experienced trauma and possible placement disruption, who may then present with behaviours of concern. Situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, young people placed here engage in a programme of exciting outdoor activities. These provide a platform for building relationships and therapeutic work focusing on self-esteem, identity and the development of pro-social coping skills to keep themselves and others safe.

As a Senior Support worker, you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like:

  • Being a Trauma Informed professional – To provide trauma informed responses through the individualised use of therapeutic and, where appropriate, physical intervention to ensure our young people are supported appropriately during times of crisis.
  • Keeping Children Safe – To manage any child protection issues that may occur through effective reporting in line with the policies and procedures and to take an active role in understanding the risk assessments and individual behaviour support plans for young people to ensure they are provided with a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Effective Leadership and Supervision – To support the Team Leader with handovers, shift planning and to have oversight of the shift in the absence of a Team Leader ensuring that all required daily tasks are completed appropriately and accurately facilitating the smooth running of the home. Where required, you will provide reflective supervisions to team members offering guidance and support ensuring effective professional development.
  • Upholding appropriate professional boundaries – To proactively maintain safe and respectful relationships with young people providing effective support, guidance and care ensuring the maintenance of safe professional boundaries in line with best practice.
  • Providing encouragement and Support – To actively encourage young people to engage with a range of outdoor and indoor activities to build confidence, self-esteem and maximise learning and development of new skills through alternative education to support sustainable outcomes and provide an enjoyable and varied home environment where young people can thrive.
  • Making a house a home – To demonstrate the therapeutic importance of maintaining a clean, tidy and homely environment through effective role modelling and education, promoting high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety and demonstrating positive and healthy choices to support children to develop and thrive.
  • Accurate recording, reporting and communication – Documenting and communicating all relevant information in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals, to promote and safeguard the welfare of the young people in placement. 

This role is offered as a permanent position You will be working on a rota basis; Day 1: 9.00 to 23.00 with a sleep in, Day 2: 7.30 to 23.00 with a sleep in, Day 3: 7.30 to 10.00, Day 4 to 6 off. All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways.

You and your specialisms

Senior roles within our frontline services help achieve our mission of making a difference through passionate care, support, and education. To support this, you will be required to have, or be working towards a minimum of the following qualification levels and/or experience:

  • To hold or be working towards a qualification relevant to the post, such as NVQ 3/level 3 Diploma in childcare
  • Demonstrable experience in working with children and/or young people will be required
  • A good knowledge of child protection and safeguarding would be expected.
  • A knowledge of the Welsh language would be advantageous.
